Hypothyroidism & Low Thyroid Function

The most common symptoms that come to mind when someone talks about hypothyroidism (low levels of thyroid hormones) are weight gain, fatigue, cold intolerance and depression. However hypothyroidism is also associated with increased frequency of heart failure, coronary heart disease, dementia, insulin resistance, and dilated cardiomyopathy, and increased risk of breast cancer. Hypothyroidism & Weight Gain

Decreased thyroid function can occur at any age, even though both men and women are at higher risk for low thyroid function as they age. Both genders are at higher risk if there is any family history of thyroid disease. Other risk factors for hypothyroid disease include gluten intolerance, autoimmune disease in self or a family member, and inadequate iodine intake, or excessive iodine intake. The statistical probability of women developing hypothyroid function also increases with each pregnancy.
Obesity is a common indicator of decreased thyroid function. Though other factors, such as insulin resistance, inadequate physical activity or other lifestyle choices also cause obesity, suboptimal thyroid function is at least contributory in most cases. When the …(Hypothyroidism & Weight Gain)
